FAQ's

What days do you deliver?

We deliver on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - you can choose your preferred delivery date when placing your order. Fresh meat tastes better, that’s why our butchers cute on the day your order is due out for delivery. This means we don’t rush to get it out the door as quickly as possible. We need to plan things ahead to ensure we’ve got everything you need to make tasty meals.

  • Order by Monday at 11am to receive your order on Wednesday
  • Order by Tuesday at 11am to receive your order on Thursday
  • Order by Wednesday at 11am to receive your order on Friday
  • Order by Friday at 11am to receive your order on Tuesday

Do you deliver on a weekend?

  • We don't currently offer a weekend delivery service, sorry. It is something we are looking
  • into but at the moment it's not feasible.
  • We can deliver on a Saturday (if needed) but there is a delivery surcharge of £15. If you
  • want to arrange Saturday delivery (Inc. surcharge) drop us an email

Can I give delivery instructions?

You can leave delivery instructions when you order (or via the APC app/email options),but keep instructions short and simple for the driver. “Leave by front door” or “To be left by side gate” are great, but phone numbers are not effective as not all drivers have mobile phones, so we can’t guarantee they will call if requested.

If you live in a flat or somewhere with an entry system, the driver will need to know that, so put that on delivery instructions.

Where do you deliver?

We deliver to most of mainland Britain, but if you live in the Highlands or Islands (not mainland UK) and some parts of Scotland, unfortunately we wouldn't be able to offer next day delivery. Making sure the meat is fresh and tasty when it arrives is important to us, so if it can’t be delivered within 48 hours of leaving our fridge we can’t deliver it. We're working with our courier partner to cover more areas, but for now it is what it is (sorry). We cannot deliver to the following Postcodes

AB36-38, AB55-56, BT1-94, FK17-21, HS1-9, IV1-56, IV62-63, KA27-28, KW1-17, PA1-49, PA60-78, PH19-50, ZE1-3

Do you deliver overseas?

Unfortunately, we do not deliver outside mainland Britain so we won't be able to help if you are looking for delivery overseas.

Can I book a delivery slot?

No, we can't specify a delivery time slot in advance, sorry. Our delivery window is 8am to 7pm (sometimes slightly later at peak times such as Christmas). Drivers' routes change on a day to day basis to make them as efficient as possible, so you may not receive your order at the same time with each delivery. You will get a text/e-mail from our delivery partner APC with your tracking information on the morning of delivery and you will be able to track it yourself, or suggest a safe location for the driver to leave the package at https://apc-overnight.com/ with your consignment number which you will be sent on the morning.

Where is my order?

How is the meat kept chilled?

Our food-safe packaging means the meat will stay nice and fresh until it reaches you within 24 hours. The packaging we use is designed to keep the meat chilled below 4℃ for up to 48 hours, (and our technical team regularly test this), but this is rarely needed as APC are consistently voted Britain’s best courier - which is why we partner with them!

Can I recycle the packaging?

The cardboard outer is widely recycled, and the polystyrene inner can be recycled at certain recycling plants, but generally not. The gel ice packs can be reused, and lots of our customers use them to chill drinks or picnics, however they not recyclable after use. We know it's not ideal and we’re mindful of the sustainability of packaging used and sent out to customers. We’re continuously looking at how we can reduce waste as a business, while ensuring food safety and that the meat we send arrives as fresh as possible.

We are working with our suppliers to come up with a solution that ticks all the boxes as we aim to use packaging that contains recycled materials, as well as packaging that can, where possible, be recycled to reduce our impact on the environment.

Where does your meat come from?

We’re proud to source our meat from local farms, cattle markets and abattoirs near to us here in North West England and along the Welsh boarder. Hard working independent farmers, who know and respect their animals and every inch of their farmland.

By trading this way we cut out middlemen and pay a better price for quality, that is fairer on the farmer and the customer.

We’re proud of our meaty heritage, and we’re glad to be independent, as it means we don’t have to sell you the same old cuts of meat, sliced by a machine and wrapped in little plastic boxes. Our meat is matured in our ageing fridge, and looked after by a bunch of butchers, who have a passion for meat, and making sure it’s looked after.

Buying British meat means you're helping us to help British farmers and in turn helping to keep the British countryside beautiful. It also means you’re doing your bit for food miles and choosing meat that has been reared on an accredited farm with high welfare standards, and that the animals have been slaughtered in an approved abattoir - humanely slaughtered in the UK.

Is your meat halal?

We do not sell any products that have been ritually slaughtered, all the abattoir suppliers we work with use the stun method. Unless the product on the website specifies it is halal, then you should presume it is non-halal.

We can source halal products, and we do work with abattoirs that are certified as 'halal' but they do not ritually slaughter, and/or sell both halal and non-halal products. As such, if you want guaranteed halal or non-halal products, hand on heart we are probably not the best place for you to buy meat.

We don't want this to appear that we are turning your business away, we just want to be honest with you, as we know halal and non-halal is a priority for some people. We like to think we provide really great tasting meat at a good price that is fair on the farmer and the customer, but we appreciate this model isn't for everyone, and some people have specific requirements.

Is your beef grass-fed?

The short answer is yes, but our meat is not 100% grass-fed, so we'd like to explain a little bit why that is the case.

Our ethos as a company is to work with suppliers and farmers that we know and trust. This means that we work with a diverse range, and we decided to build our focus on trust and reputation rather than certificates and badges. Most of the beef we sell is from pure beef breed cattle that spend most of the time on grass.

Is your beef dry-aged?

What really sets us apart from the other online butchers, is that we are butchers. We’ve been butchering for three generations and are proud of our meaty heritage.

We age our prime cuts of beef (Rib, Loin, Fillet and Rump) for a minimum of 21 days in our ageing room, looked after by TMM butchery team.

What are your chicken welfare standards?

Our chicken is produced by farmers who understand and feel as passionately as we do about standards of animal welfare. Birds are fed a diet enriched with maize which gives excellent eating quality and are reared in purpose-built houses with large windows to allow natural light. They also have straw bales to play with to keep them fit and active. The hens have more space than the industry standard.

Is your meat free range?

Our standard chicken is not Free Range. We do sell certified free range and/or organic products from time-to-time on the site, and they are labelled and priced accordingly.

If free range and organic meat is a non-negotiable for you, then hand on heart you are better off using an alternative supplier. We don't want this to appear that we are turning your business away, we just want to be honest with you. We like to think we provide great tasting meat at a good price that is fair on the farmer and the customer, but we appreciate this model isn't for everyone.

How do I create an account?

You don't have to have an account to shop at The Meat Man, but there are advantages to creating one:

  • View your order history, a detailed list of each order you have placed with us.
  • Be rewarded for shopping with TMM and build up your loyalty point.
  • Print and reprint receipts from previous orders.
  • Shop with just one-click as your address, billing, and credit card information is encrypted and stored
  • in your account (which you can change as needed).

To create an account, click on the person on the top right of every page on the website. You can then either login or register. Whenever you come back to our site, login as a Returning Customer. You can change account information at any time by logging into your account. I had an account on your old site As we've launched a new website, on a new platform, your old account details will not work on the new website, and you will be asked to set-up a new account.

You should have received an email about this, and there is a 10% discount offer on your first order, as we know asking existing customers to sign-up again is not ideal, but due to data protection regulations we did not want to transfer over customer data to the new site. All your old account data is secure, and we can access that should you need us to.

  • You will receive a Confirmation Email telling you your order has been placed and confirmed, along
  • with the delivery date. This will be then followed up by an email with your tracking details once your
  • order leaves our fridge

Why are your special offers limited?

From time to time we put out special offers via email (and sometimes on social media). These special offers tend to be limited as we usually only have a limited amount of stock, that we can sell on special offers.

As a small bespoke business, we can't offer discounted supermarket pricing all of the time, and we can only offer special offer pricing on a limited basis. We operate a first come basis on special offers, as we think it is the fairest way to pass on meaty savings to our customers.

We are aware it is frustration to those who miss out, and for that we can only say sorry!
